Like all of the games in the service, you can’t purchase World of Demon’s separately you’ll have to sign up for Apple Arcade to access it. Since World of Demons is a part of Apple Arcade, subscribers have access to the game on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. There’s also the “Platinum Four”, the studio’s featured slate of games that includes The Wonderful 101: Remastered, Project G.G., the newly-revealed arcade shooter, Sol Cresta, and unveiling of the studio’s new Tokyo branch (and, presumably, whatever might come out of it). Babylon’s Fall is also still a thing as far we know too. Bayonetta 3 is of course the biggie, which is still happening last we checked. Because it’s a Platinum joint, the game’s action is fast, fluid, and over-the-top, and you can play using a controller or with virtual inputs on the touchscreen. Along the way players will recruit additional yokai and samurai to their cause, each bringing new abilities. Players control a samurai who leads an army of yokai, demons in Japanese folklore, on a mission to take down the evil lord of oni, Shuten Doji. The game’s aesthetic harkens titles like Okami in that it rocks a gorgeous, watercolor art inspired by ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Platinum Games announced the mobile action game back in 2018, and guess what? It’s suddenly available now exclusively on Apple Arcade.ĭo you like stylish action games with pretty art directions? World of Demons might be up your alley. The game is set to launch this year too, with Platinum again working on a bunch of other projects at the same time.You’d be forgiven if you forgot all about World of Demons. The game will have PvP too, but details on how paid content works there wasn’t detailed. Platinum Games says that World of Demons will be free-to-play, and players will be able to purchase currency to increase their chances of acquiring little yokai that can be used as companions. It’s beautiful, and should look great on the range of high definition mobile screens that litter the market today. The game itself also looks incredibly striking, with loads of bold colours awash in a water painting like setting. It’s the opposite end of the spectrum to something like Infinity Blade, which stripped player movement from you but gave you full attacking control. Players will also need to use swipes to engage dodges and parries, which can then be strung together with the automatic attacks. Attacks will be instigated automatically, and change according to your position around the foe. Instead of controlling combos, players will need to focus on getting close to enemies. Gameplay needs to be adapted for mobile, and Platinum’s solution seems rather smart. Players will take control of various samurai as they tackle numerous different Oni and Yokai – monstrous demons from Japanese folklore. Platinum Games says to Polygon that they want to bring the feeling of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry to more mobile platforms, and they feel as though they aren’t compromising with World of Demons. World of Demons is their first crack at it, having already been in development for three years as part of a partnership with DeNA. And it’s no surprise then that they’ve been looking at a mobile game for some time. Platinum, being independent, have that flexibility. Nintendo has frequently been making their mark on iOS and Android too, with mixed success, but it’s not going to be uncommon for more console focused studios to start doing the same. Mobile gaming is still one of the biggest (if not the biggest) markets, and you only need to glance at the success of companies like SuperCell to understand the allure.
